FAQ

Where are you located?

We are based in Wellington, Western Cape. We are exclusively an online nursery and as such are unable to allow nursery visits. We do however ship plants throughout South Africa.

Delivery / Shipping?

We use the Courier Guy for shipping. Your plants will be packed in a box and shipped throughout South Africa.  For far outlying areas and difficult-to-reach properties, it is suggested that you collect your plants from the nearest Courier Guy depot.

How long does shipping take?

1 to 4 business days (excluding the day of the order) depending on where you are located. Cape Town - 1 day; main urban centers - 2-3 days; outlying areas 3-4 days

Are the plants suitable for transplanting into the soil?

All our plants are well rooted and established and can be planted directly into the soil.

Once received, how quickly should I transplant?

It is best to plant out within 3 days of receiving them. Ideally plant within 1-2 days.  Keep the box open, the plants should be upright and kept moist while waiting to be transplanted.

How do I plant them?

Prepare a small hole with compost and bonemeal (optional).  It is important that the plants are not planted too deep. The level that they are growing currently in the pot is the level that they should be planted in the soil. If the plant is supplied in a coco-pot, this should not be removed when transplanting. It is beneficial to place coarse compost or mulch around the plant after transplanting.

 What soil is best?

In general, our plants are tolerant of most soil types. Sandy/loam soils are best, however, they also grow well in clay soils. The watering must be adjusted to soil type. Clay soils, water less, and for sandy soils water more. Compost is always beneficial but not essential. For pots, a well-drained potting soil is best.

How often should I water the plants?

They should be watered when transplanted. The plants must be kept moist during the initial establishment period of 4 weeks. Thereafter, depending on rain, once a week in winter and twice a week in summer is normally sufficient. This is only a guideline.

Do they require much fertiliser?

Yes, all plants respond well to fertiliser. Choose a balanced fertiliser and apply sparingly every 3 months. Have a look at the fertilisers we offer for sale. They are specifically chosen for quality and performance.

The plants are fairly small, how quickly do they grow?

As wholesalers and to facilitate shipping we supply small plants (15cm to 40cm). This is the ideal size for mass plantings.  Each species has a different rate of growth. In general, they should establish within 8 to 12 weeks and be fully grown in 1 to 2 years. Have a look at our planting guide for further information.

Should I position my plants in shade or full sun?

This varies between the species. Take note of the descriptions in the item menu, and look at our planting guide. In general, most plants prefer full sun or semi-shade. However, each garden is different, and we suggest doing your own experiments.

What if I am not happy with the quality of my plants?
